Abanda, Robillard-Millette and Wozniak advance at the Saguenay National Bank Challenger

Three Canadians moved on to the next round on Wednesday at the $50,000 Saguenay National Bank Challenger. Françoise Abanda (Montreal, QC) and Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) advanced to the second round while Charlotte Robillard-Millette (Blainville, QC) booked her place in the quarter-finals for a second consecutive year.

Seventeen-year-old Robillard-Millette defeated American Jessica Wacnik 6-3, 7-6(3). The Canadian was particularly strong on serve en route to closing the match in straight sets. She awaits the winner of Thursday’s match between second-seeded American Jennifer Brady and Germany’s Laura Schaeder. Robillard-Millette also won in doubles alongside her partner Bianca Andreescu (Toronto, ON).

For her part, Abanda, seeded seventh in the tournament, began her Saguenay campaign with a comfortable 7-6(2), 6-0 victory over American Nicole Coopersmith in just 53 minutes.

Wozniak beat Katie Boulter of Great Britain 6-3, 6-4 during Wednesday’s evening session to set up an all-Canadian second round matchup on Thursday night against Abanda.

Canadians Andreescu and Katherine Sebov (Toronto, ON) will also contest their second round matches on Thursday in Saguenay.
